Youth delegates of Bulgaria on 71st UN General Assembly
Youth delegates of Bulgaria to the UN Alexandra Mircheva and Iva Tzolova returned after visiting the Third Committee (Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Affairs) on the 71st session of the UN General Assembly. During the two-week stay in New York youth delegates presented the views and ideas of young people from Bulgaria. On October 4, they addressed a statement in the Third Committee, and on October 13 event organized jointly with the Romanian counterparts on "Young people-engine change today", informed from the UN Association in Bulgaria.
During a 71st Session of the UN General Assembly were organized many events on youth-related issues organized by the permanent missions of countries in the UN, UN agencies and their fellow youth delegates. Topics of the events were: climate change, the role of youth leadership in peace and security, children's rights, the impact of media on public and political processes, entrepreneurship as a method to the achievement of sustainable development and others.
Youth delegates met with the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon with General Assembly President Peter Thompson, with Ahmad Alendaui - Envoy of the UN Secretary General on youth Bonnie Golomahamadi - Secretary General of the World Federation of United Nations with representatives of the development Programme of the United Nations and other key agencies and organizations that are related to topics and issues affecting young people.
This year the program "Youth Delegates to the UN" marked the largest participation of youth delegates. Over 35 countries in the UN and over 70 youth delegates participated in sessions of the General Assembly. Bulgaria is one of the first countries included in the program 10 years ago and Bulgarian delegates had the opportunity to share best practices with colleagues who are at the beginning of the establishment of the program in their countries. Extremely helpful for all delegates had the opportunity to hold talks on the prevalence, improving and deepening the program in various regions of the world. Young people united around common ideas and goals to organize together to increase the impact of their actions.
