Cities of the Rose
A twinning agreement between the Algerian town of Blida and the Bulgarian town of Kazanlak was signed today, said from the Press Center of the Kazanlak municipality.
The signatories - the mayor of the Municipality of Kazanlak Galina Stoyanova and Khaled Hassen Bay, deputy chairman of the Municipal People's Council and the Deputy Mayor of the City of Culture for Culture, called the event "Historical Moment of Brotherhood and Sincerity".
Blida is the Algerian Rose City. The present town Blida , French in character, has well-built modern streets with many arcades, and numbers among its buildings several mosques and churches, extensive barracks and a large military hospital. The principal square, the place d'Armes, is surrounded by arcaded houses and shaded by trees. The center of a fertile district, and a post on one of the main routes in the country, Blida has a flourishing trade, chiefly in oranges and flour. The orange groves contain over 50,000 trees, and in April the air for miles round is laden with the scent of the orange blossoms. In the public gardens is a group of magnificent olive trees. The products of the neighboring cork trees and cedar groves are a source of revenue to the town. Sidi-Ahmed El-Kebir, Blida’s founder, is buried in Sidi El-Kebir (an area named after him). He founded Blida in the 16th century.
The oldest settlement in the area of the modern-day city dates back to the Neolithic era (6th-5th millennium BCE). During the 4th-3rd centuries BCE the lands on the upper Tundzha river were within the dominion of the Thracian ruler Seuthes III and took an important place in the historical development of Thrace during the Hellenistic era. The Thracian city of Seuthopolis (Σευθόπολις) was uncovered near Kazanlak and thoroughly studied at the time of the construction of the Koprinka Reservoir
The official 5-member delegation led by Her Excellency Latifa Benazza, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Algerian Democratic and People's Republic of Bulgaria, comprising representatives of the District and Municipal Governments of the town of Blida and the area of the same name was welcomed by the Mayor of Kazanlak and the President of the Municipal Council Kazanlak Nikolay Zlatanov, Deputy Mayors and greeted by the District Governor of Stara Zagora, Gergana Mikova.
Galina Stoyanova briefly presented the emblems of Kazanlak, which are proud of Bulgaria - the valley of the oil-bearing rose Damascena and the valley of the Thracian kings.
