People's wisdom and traditions of six countries
The English High School “Yordan Radichkov” in Vidin, Bulgaria hosts an international meeting under the project "Language Wealth" with the following number 2016-1-TR01-KA219-034359_5. The project is funded by the European Union under Key Activity 219 "Strategic Partnership for Innovation and Exchange of Good Practices" in the "Strategic partnerships between schools only", the School Education sector of the European Commission's Erasmus + program.
The international meeting is being held from 25 to 29.09.2017, in which the participants in the project are taking part- schools from Denizli, Turkey, Targu-Jiu, Romania, Sanok, Poland, Riga, Latvia, Lauro, Italy and Vidin .
The guests were welcomed with bread and honey at “Yordan Radichkov” Language Teaching School and were congratulated by Lyubomir Georgiev, the school's director. After a brief presentation of the geographical and historical landmarks of Bulgaria and Vidin, the foreign participants in the meeting met their colleagues from the Vidin school and attended several lessons in mathematics, biology, computer technology, Bulgarian and French. After lunch the guests were greeted by the engineer Ognian Tzenkov, mayor of Vidin Municipality.
The project "Language Wealth" brings together the wisdom and traditions of all the participating countries. It makes a comparative analysis of the proverbs and sayings as the main riches of every language represented by their equivalent in English. In March this year, 24 students and 24 teachers met in Lauro, Italy. There they were acquainted with some traditional Italian proverbs and sayings, the food; visiting the most famous historical and cultural monuments in Naples, Pompeii and Rome.
In May, another 24 students and 24 teachers from all partner schools gathered in Sanok, Poland. They were acquainted with the rich Polish culture and history by visiting Krakow and the oldest Polish university, Jagelonski. Then the students made a film about how traditions help them preserve their national identity. The Polish partners taught them how to dance ‘polonase’ and ‘polka’, and the other participants presented their national dances. Thus the students have the opportunity to communicate in English and also to find new friends with whom to continue communicating after the meeting, through the social media.
There were two other international meetings held under the same project "Language Wealth" with the participation of teachers only. The first was from 25.01 to 02.02.2017 in Lauro, Italy. The second - from 25 to 29.04.2017 in Targu-Jiu, Romania. At these meetings, the pedagogues usually discuss the various activities to be carried out on the project in all partner schools. The current meeting is also attended only by teachers who jointly decide what new activities to plan for the new school year, which is the second year of the project.
The next meeting with pupils and teachers will be in November in Denizli, Turkey.
