At the initiative of the Consul General of the Republic of Bulgaria in the Middle East of the USA, Ivan Anchev, the Historical Museum in Svishtov received a special donation for the house of Aleko Konstantinov, announced the press center of the Municipality. The donation is linked to the initiative of the Consulate General in Chicago and the naming of one of the central streets - Irving Park Rd., In the name of the distinguished Bulgarian writer.
One of the street stamps, bearing the name of the Shadowgirl in Chicago, was presented in an official atmosphere of the Aleko Konstantinov House Museum in Svishtov. The Consul-General told about a number of administrative procedures that the consular had to cross over until street naming became a reality. At the same time, he also shared his joy with the wide support of the initiative by many Bulgarian organizations and the Bulgarians in Chicago. As to how they decided to call the street with that name, Mr. Anchev said: "It was not a tribute to us to call this street at all, since Aleko Konstantinov is the one most associated with Chicago . With his book "To Chicago and Back" he gave generations of Bulgarians a glimpse into America and the New World during various periods of Bulgarian history. The Bulgarian has seen America for years through the look of Aleko Konstantinov and his travels. "
Together with the sign, the Consul presented another unique gift, which will also be included in the museum's exposition - a luxury album specially designed for the Svishtov Historical Museum, depicting a photograph of the bust-monument of Aleko Konstantinov, located in the Regenstein Library, in the world-famous University of Chicago, as well as photos from the solemn opening of the street in Chicago.
As a sign of appreciation for the exceptional gesture, Mr. Anchev received from Ivelina Ivanova, director of the Historical Museum, two copies of the book "Bai Ganyo" respectively in Bulgarian and English, and the mayor of Svishtov Gencho Genchev presented him a picture depicting the emblematic for the Clock Tower Tower in the Danube, built by master Bogdan.
The subsequent talks between the Consulate of Bulgaria in Chicago and the Mayor of Svishtov have moved towards future joint projects and initiatives that are content and united by the common goal of maintaining the spirit of Bulgarians alive. The Consul General said that there are 12 Bulgarian schools, churches, dance ensembles and a number of cultural centers in Chicago, which are constantly striving to maintain a strong and inseparable relationship with Bulgaria. He also told the Union of Bulgarian Writers, who each year publish an almanac named "Ljuboslavov", who for two years thanks to the work of the Bulgarian Consulate has its place in the Library of the American Congress.
