Bulgaria with a message to create a world destination "Ancient Civilizations"
A two-day congress of world civilizations, initiated by the World Tourism Organization, was opened today in Sofia, the press center of the Ministry of Tourism of Bulgaria announced. Over 500 delegates from all over the world.
Bulgarian Minister Nikolina Angelova opened the Congress for the Historical Routes by submitting a proposal to the World Tourism Organization (SOT) to create a World Destination "Ancient Civilizations". "Such an initiative would contribute to a better understanding of the world's cultural heritage. I hope this initiative will be supported by the SOT and Bulgaria will be extremely important to be its initiator, "said Minister Angelkova at the opening of the second International Congress of Ancient Civilizations and Historical Routes. Minister Angelko specified that a message will be sent to regions with ancient cultures to join the idea of a similar destination that will be open to many participants. A good start to the realization of this idea is the inclusion of sites that are on the list of the world cultural heritage of UNESCO.
Among the official guests of the International Congress of the Ancient Civilizations and the Historical Routes are the Deputy Secretary General of SOT Jaime Sanklemente, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Commission on Culture and Media Vezhdi Rashidov, the Chairman of the Committee on Economic Policy and Tourism Petar Kanev, the Deputy Minister of Culture Amelia Gesheva, ministers and managers of tourism, representatives of the public and private sector in the branch and related industries, internationally recognized experts in the field of culture and preservation the cultural heritage. The forum is held on 15 and 16 November 2018 in Sofia, with Bulgaria hosting the second time of the event of this rank.
The Congress aims to explore how the link between culture and tourism creates opportunities for economic growth and social development. Tourism has proven its potential as one of the main generators for the growth of the world economy and has been developing at an accelerated rate over the last decades. The sector has a share of 10.4% of the world's gross domestic product, which employs over 313 million people worldwide.
