Many-faced Mihalaki Georgiev

22.10.2019

Sonya Machorska

An exhibition of this name was opened today at the Regional Library "Mihalaki Georgiev" in Vidin. The exposition is organized by the University Library "St. Kliment Ohridski ”and the Institute of Literature at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. It presents material related to the creative path and biography of the Bulgarian writer - fiction writer, public figure, diplomat, business figure. Desislava Ivanova, Director of the Vidin Library, presented the guests from the University Library: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Anna Angelova - Director, Dr. Bilyana Yavrukova - Deputy Director; Dr. Malina Dimitrova and Marieta Georgieva - PR Departments.

The exhibits show different documents - excerpts from letters of Mihalaki Georgiev, more important dates from his biography, more information about his activity as a botanist, writer, scientist, teacher, financier, diplomat, as well as his participation in the preparation at the Plovdiv Exhibition.

Mihalaki Georgiev was born on August 11, 1854 in Vidin (beginning February 14, 1916 in Sofia). He is one of the representatives of New Bulgarian literature who formed themselves as creators during the Renaissance but unfolded completely after the Liberation from Turkish slavery. Initially, he published separate materials in the Chitalishte, Pravo, Stupan magazines - mainly on economic topics.

After the Liberation he worked as a manager of the Vidin customs office, a customs inspector in Bulgaria, an official at the Ministry of Public Buildings, Agriculture and Trade and at the Ministry of Finance, diplomatic representative in Vienna and Belgrade. In 1892 he was the organizer and director of the first Bulgarian Agricultural and Industrial Exhibition in Plovdiv. The initiator and organizer of the first Bulgarian state lottery, his signature is on all 300,000 tickets.

Since 1890 it has been fully included in our post-liberation fiction with topics in the life of the Bulgarian village. She writes stories, essays and humorous stories. His work, though distinctive and specific, is an integral part of the critical-realistic line in our literature from this period in the person of Ivan Vazov, Todor Vlaykov, Aleko Konstantinov and others.

Since 1900, he is a writer, publicist and editor of the Balkan Tribune, a regular member of the Bulgarian Cultural Society, on whose basis the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences was founded. He created and edited one of the first agricultural magazines - The Host. Compiled the first Bulgarian textbook on botany for secondary schools. It was printed in Belgrade in 1881.

Mihalaki Georgiev is the author of the notorious story "Uncle Dencho's Measure", whose title becomes narrative as an expression of eternal measure without coverage - https://chitanka.info/text/20362-merakyt-na-chicho-dencho

His better known works are: "That's how a person lies. Humoresque "(1899)," Luck is Everything in This World "(1904)," Three Meetings. Memories of the past (1899) - full of humor and sarcasm, "The tax collector came - dramatization" (1905), "Tahir Begovitsa" (1910) and others. Creates an entire gallery of images of ordinary people. The language of his works is colorful, full of dialectisms, Turkisms, proverbs and sayings.

06.10.2019

Sonya Machorska

For another year, the Sunday School opened its doors to the Metropolitanate of Vidin. His Eminence Metropolitan DaniIl, in co-ordination with priests, served a blessing for the blessing of children, their teachers and their parents.

There are three Sunday School schools - religion, icon painting and dramatic and puppetry. The first two are led by theologian Elena Velkova, and the third - by Maria Petrova, who has a practice in childcare at the Bulgarian Church in Toronto, Canada.

The lessons with the children are held in the building of the Diocesan School next to the Church of “St. Nicholas” in Vidin.

Sweet Fest

05.10.2019

Sonya Machorska

The Bella and Benji Festival - "sweet" and beautiful. Handmade sweets, syrups, wines, pastries and all kinds of other delicacies, souvenirs and decorations can be tried and seen at the Vladikina Bahcha Park in Vidin.

The Autumn Fest is the second one organized by the two ambitious and laughing girls - Bella Antova and Isabella (Benji) Vasileva in the city. They returned to their hometown about four months ago after completing their tertiary education and gained experience in larger cities. Bella recounts the beauty of the beautiful park in one place: “When we came to Vidin, we said to ourselves that it was horribly boring here and the events that were going on were pretty much the same. And we decided to try to do something else. In Sofia and other major cities, we have seen this type of bazaars, that is, our idea is not original - we just moved it to our native land. Surprisingly for ourselves, we gathered quite a few participants from Bulgaria and Serbia - very interesting people! And it became what you see!"

Ships preserved the summer

03.10.2019

Sonya Machorska

A second joint exhibition of paintings by artists Valery Nikiforov and Maya Angelova opened tonight in Vidin. Colorful paintings that have preserved the sun and summer and small, artistically crafted objects have attracted the attention of many lovers of fine arts. The inspiration for the exhibition, Maya says, has been drawn from the wonderful summer that has passed. This is how the seascapes and the beautiful small ships were created, made of natural materials collected from the Black Sea and Danube shores. That's why they carry a "very warm, summer charge." The motto of the exhibition is to thank the summer and look ahead to the fall with a smile, she said.

The exposition, arranged in a downtown hall, will be visible for two more weeks.

Sonya Machorska

Bulgarian Youth Delegates to the UN with 2019-2020 Mandate - Bogomila Kormanova and Minko Daskalov, will participate in the 74th session of the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly, announced Ralitsa Dikanska, Coordinator of the Program "Bulgarian Youth Delegates to the UN". From the first to the 14th of October, for the thirteenth consecutive year, the delegates will express the opinion of the Bulgarian youth at the highest international level.

As part of their working visit, our youth delegates will make a formal statement to the Third Committee. In their speech, they will highlight the priority areas for their mandate - quality education and employment, which Bulgaria's young people identified through a survey based on the UN Youth Action Program. Over 1,200 young Bulgarians became involved and expressed their views on a number of issues, many of them also proposing concrete actions to address the challenges.

Bogomila Kormanova and Minko Daskalov will be organizing a follow-up event on the topic: 'Decent Work with Meaning', together with their fellow youth delegates from the Republic of Ireland. The event will focus on the work of the Future and what skills young people need to possess - not only to contribute to a greener economy, but also to uphold their rights and dignity, as well as to strike a balance between work and their lives beyond it.

The youth delegates will also join the negotiations on a new Youth Resolution, which is adopted every two years by the UN General Assembly, thus upholding the rights and interests of Bulgarian youth at the highest level.

The participation of the youth delegates in the session of the Third Committee of the General Assembly is carried out with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria.

The Bulgarian Youth Delegates to the UN Program is one of the most successful such programs worldwide. In Bulgaria, it is coordinated by the United Nations Society in Bulgaria and implemented with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and partners from the non-governmental sector.
