The European commission has extended with two years the term for the putting to use of the 227 million euros under ISPA programme, which expires at the end of this year. The extension of time helps Bulgaria not to lose the funding for the construction of Danube Bridge 2 and six important ecological projects.
For the construction of the bridge between Vidin and Calafat the European commission granted 70 million euros. The ecological projects are approved in 2004 and the terms for them are extended only with one year. Among these projects, for example, is the water cycle of Sofia with funding 44 million euros.
With one year is extended the term for the building of the sulphur-cleansing installations of two blocks of the Thermal Power Station “Maritsa Iztok 2”. The European Commission have granted to us 36 million euros. The projects for the integrated management of waters in Sliven, Russe, Kyustendil shall be executed until 2011. The European funding for them is 77 million euros.
Members of the European Commission specified that not only Bulgaria has received extension of time under ISPA programme but other countries- members, too. The aim is to give the countries the chance to develop successfully their infrastructure projects.
