A team from “Deutsche Welle” TV visited the construction site of Danube bridge to shoot a reportage for the program “European Journal”, in connection with the forthcoming accession of Bulgaria and Romania to the Schengen zone.
Paul Tutsek and Ildiko-Zsuzsa Hunyadi spoke with the Deputy Manager of the project “Danube bridge Vidin-Calafat” eng. Julio Ruiz about the constructed up to now and what is forthcoming. Despite the severe weather conditions, the journalists watched the assembly of the installation for the execution of the pavement blocks for the bridge.
More than 60% of the trans-border railway structure and the adjoining infrastructure has been executed so far.
What is going on at the moment is the construction of the bridge deck in the non-navigable channel of the river, the erection of the struts at pier PB9, the pylons at pier PB 10 and the assembly of the vessel impact protections at pier PB 11 in the navigable channel of the Danube river. The concreting of the big segments for the superstructure of the bridge in the navigable part of the river and the vessel impact protections is being carried out in the production site of FCC Construccion. The execution of the adjoining overhead railway road and the approaches to the bridge, the construction of sections, road junctions and installations of the adjoining road and railway infrastructure to the bridge are advancing.
“We will be back for the opening ceremony of the bridge and we will be happy to drive along it” - said the journalists, accompanied by the Bulgarian correspondent of the German media Krasimir Simeonov
