The Construction of Danube Bridge Vidin-Calafat unbreakable, 26.05.2013

   Two-day speed and loading  trial tests of the motorway and the railway Danube bridge  Vidin-Calafat proved  30% greater certainty of the cross-border  transport facility than the provided by the  calculated and set out in the project documentation which, in practice, guarantees the durability  of the bridge construction.
   The trial tests were realized by the Spanish company “Eptisa”, subcontractor of the Contractor – FCC Construccion.
   The tests for maximum loading of the bridge and monitoring the potential sagging and deflection of the structure were carried out by loading it with 24 trucks each of  30 tons, 4  locomotives of 118 tons and 10 wagons of 80 tons each. Special equipment recorded the parameters.
  The speed tests along the railway  track  were performed  with three different speeds  of 5, 30, 50  and 70 km/h  at three  places -  along the railway approach to the bridge, along the bridge in the navigable  channel and along the bridge  in the non-navigable channel of the river.
   The equipment did not record the so-called resonance phenomena in which the oscillations and vibrations of the bridge coincide with the speed of the train and could lead to some unpleasant consequences.  
   The  tests were monitored by: eng. Alberto Vergara – Manager of FCC Construccion – Bulgaria; representatives of the Supervision – professor Mario Galabov – Director Directorate “Facilities” at NRIC; professor Dimitar Dimov – Head of  an accredited  laboratory for testing  railway lines; eng. Konstantin Zhiponov -  representative of the consortium “Scott Wilson  Holding”, who prepared the assignment for testing the bridge construction, etc.
   After the speed and loading tests of the motorway and railway at Danube Bridge Vidin-Calafat, Act 14 will be signed.
   The signing of Act 15 is to be done, as well as the handing over of the ownership of the bridge by the Contractor to the Employer.
