Danube Bridge Vidin-Calafat progresses in the navigable channel of the Danube river, 17.05.2011


   The assembly of the segments from the superstructure of the bridge Vidin-Calafat was commenced in the navigable channel of the river at Pier PB9.

A total number of 178 segments weighing up to 240 tons will continue the main body of the bridge in this part of the Danube. They all are cast in the Production Plant of the company – Constructor FCC Construccion, which is situated in Free Zone Vidin Ltd. From there each pair of segments are transported by water with a barge , from where they are mounted with the help of a launching crane, installed on the respective Pier in then river, and by highly qualified engineering and technical personnel. Each of the segments has individual parameters, depending on its place in the construction of the road installation.

The length of the superstructure of the bridge in the navigable channel of the river is 746 meters, and in the non-navigable – 650 m. The first 300 smaller segments of the construction (weighing from 80 – to 120 tons each) are installed in the non-navigable channel of the river – from Abutment A2 to Pier PB8

On both sides of the superstructure of the bridge proceeds the construction of the cantilever wings, which has already been completed from Abutment A2 to Pier PB3.
