Exhibition of Armenag Mardirosyan in Sofia
On 02 April 2026 the exhibition of a Bulgarian-Armenian artist Armenag Mardirosyan took place under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Bulgaria, the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Sofia, and the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU), announced the Bulgarian-Armenian Cultural and Information Center in Varna.
The event brought together representatives of Bulgarian institutions, the diplomatic corps, cultural figures, and members of the Armenian community, celebrating the power of art as a bridge between cultures and peoples.
Welcoming speeches were delivered by the Ambassador Tsovinar Hambardzumyan, Deputy Minister of Culture of Bulgaria, Aleksander Traikov; Director General of Bilateral Relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria, Ambassador Petko Doykov, and the artist himself, Armenag Mardirosyan.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Hambardzumyan expressed sincere gratitude to the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Sredets Gallery for their invaluable support in organizing the exhibition. He highlighted that the works of Armenag Mardirosyan carry a special significance, reflecting the centuries-old friendship between Armenia and Bulgaria — a relationship that continues to evolve through shared values, creativity, and cultural exchange.
The Ambassador mentioned also the excellent interstate relations developing between Armenia and Bulgaria, marked by active political dialogue, growing economic cooperation, and vibrant cultural exchange, reflected in numerous initiatives — book publications, literary translations, theatrical performances, festivals, and annual concerts.
Ambassador Hambardzumyan also underlined the important role of the Armenian community in Bulgaria, as well as the contribution of the Armenian General Benevolent Union, which celebrates its 120th anniversary this year, in preserving Armenian culture and promoting artistic initiatives worldwide.
The exhibition also featured a congratulatory message from the President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Iliana Iotova, which reads in part:
„Dear Mr. Mardirosyan, please accept my heartfelt congratulations on the opening of your exhibition of oil paintings dedicated to the vastness of the sea. I express my respect for your contribution to contemporary fine arts and the important place you occupy in the cultural life of Varna and Bulgaria. Your creativity impresses with inherent artistic mastery. It carries the spirit of the enduring traditions that connect our two nations — Bulgaria and Armenia. May the audience highly appreciate the inspiration and talent with which you paint. I wish you health and many future creative successes!“
The exhibition stands as yet another testament to the strong cultural ties between Armenia and Bulgaria, further strengthening the friendship between the two nations. The Embassy congratulates Armenag Mardirosyan on this remarkable exhibition and wishes him continued success and inspiration.
