The assembly of the segments of the superstructure of the bridge Vidin-Calafat was started at pier
РВ11 in the navigation channel of the river.
A total number of 178 segments with weight up to 240 tons will continue the superstructure of the bridge in the navigable channel of the Danube River. They all are produced in the production plant of the company – Constructor, FCC Construccion, which is situated in the free Zone Vidin. Each pair of segments is transported by a barge from the production plant to the respective pier where they are assembled with the help of a crane /girder trus/, mounted on the respective pier in the river by highly specialized engineering and technical staff. Each segment has its individual parameters, depending on its place in the structure of the road installation. The assembly of the segments is executed in pairs which are prestressed with steel cables.
The length of the superstructure of the bridge in the navigable channel of the river is 746 meters, and in the non-navigable – 650 m. The first 300 smaller segments of the superstructure (with weight from 80 – to 120 tons each) are assembled in the non-navigable channel of the river – from Abutment A2 to Pier PB8. Nineteen pairs of the large segments have already been assembled in the navigation channel of the Danube River at pier PB9, and at pier PB10 are assembled 13 pairs and 5 pairs of stay cables.
The construction of the cantilever wings of the superstructure of the bridge in the non-navigable channel is going on, as well as the completion of the construction of the pylons of the last pier of the bridge in Romanian territorial waters – PB12. The construction of the railway approach to the bridge is proceeding.
