The Commissioner for Regional Policy of the European Union Johannes Hahn and the Prime Minister of Bulgaria Boiko Borisov were acquainted with the construction of the second bridge over the Danube.
Eng. Alberto Vergara, Manager of the Project, on behalf of the Contractor – FCC Construccion presented the progress of the Project under the two Contracts (of the Bridge and the Adjoining Infrastructure) the execution of which is, respectively, 82% и 92%.
The meeting took place at the already constructed superstructure of the bridge in the Navigable Channel of the Danube at pier PB9.
“If we are lucky with the weather, we will succeed to build the bridge within the term, and on the 1st of January, 2013 we will pass along the bridge on foot to Romania – promised Borisov to the Euro commissioner Hahn and, together with the Minister of Interior of Romania Ioan Rus shook hands in agreement.
“Congratulations for Bulgaria and Romania” – were the words of the Commissioner, who added that he hoped the works would be completed on time, stating that the establishment of a joint Bulgarian – Romanian company is forthcoming to manage the cross-border transport facility. “This bridge is an important symbol for Europe”, were his final words.
The visit of the Danube Bridge Vidin-Calafat is part of the program for the visit of the Euro-commissioner Johannes Hahn in the countries of the EU Danube strategy and his participation in the Bulgarian – Romanian tactical exercise “ Defence 2012”. Before Bulgaria, he visited seven countries of the Danube region.
Members of the Bulgarian delegation were: the Deputy Prime Minister and the Ministers Moskovski, Pavlova, Donchev, the MEP Velikov and others.
